Escort Card Display

Justin Marantz just sent me this amazing photograph he took of an escort card display from a recent wedding. Stunning floral design by KD+J Botanica. The escort card holders were created in acrylic and looked chic against an all white runner table with flowing white fabric in the background.

We used the same acrylic for the passed food displays. Jordan Caterers is to thank for this amazing looking food. The burgers, fries and petite milk shakes were a favorite!

Acrylic can be a great design medium. Thanks for the photographs Justin!!

Tented Weddings - Part One

The idea of designing a structure from the ground up is an amazing challenge and opportunity. So often in magazines we get to see the finished product but not the "behind the scenes" into what it really takes to get to the magazine ready stage.

For the last wedding we produced I took a lot of photo's of the installation process.
This particular field was not level so the installation of the tent began two weeks prior to the wedding day, required a structural engineer and in some areas was raised 5 feet off the ground. In total there was 15,000 square feet of tenting provided by Stamford Tents.

Once The Tents were up and secure.... load -in began

Waterfalls in New York City

From late June to mid October 2008, a major new work of temporary public art will be on display in New York City. The project consists of four man-made waterfalls installed at sites along the shores of Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Governors Island. The 90 to 120-foot tall installations will operate seven days a week, and will be lit after sunset, adding a striking element to New York City's iconic skyline.

What is the Waterfalls Tour of New York City?
New York Water Taxi will be running a special edition of our 1 Hour Harbor Tour designed for optimal viewing of these magnificent works of art. Departing hourly from South Street Seaport's Pier 17, sights on the tour will include:
- All four of The New York City Waterfalls
- The Statue of Liberty
- The Brooklyn Bridge
- Governor's Island
- the Manhattan Skyline

What should the Flower Girl Carry?

Look at these cute ideas for flower girl baskets.... The bottom two photographs [pictured above ] I have saved in my " cute files" and don't have the source.... if you are out there let me know! The top one is from a past wedding- guess where we bought the baskets ?......Christmas Tree Shops!

You can find all kinds of great containers out there for your little beauties to carry. Sometimes a relative has an old handbag that can be re-styled , try handmade wooden boxes with handles , or silk bags that are made of the same fabric as the bridesmaid dresses ....so many ideas.

Don't want to get crafty or sew.. Midori makes it easy with these great bags!

This one is from Miss Priss Style.

Whatever you choose just make sure its lightweight and easy to carry. A happy flower girl is VERY important.

Chocolate Mint

While doing a recent "catch-up" on some blog reading , I saw a post on Steve Depino's site about his Jasmine Plant. It quickly reminded me of my love of Chocolate Mint.

I discovered this little prize while at the Greystone Campus of the Culinary Institute of America

The company I worked for in my twenties sent me, along with some other folks from around the country to an intensive week long cooking class - glamorous , no?
I love NAPA! I had been to the campus many times before when it was still Christian Brothers. My family lived outside of San Francisco - and my parents dragged us on many trips to Napa. Then when Mark and I were first dating - we went out several times- as self proclaimed " foodies" and wine lovers - this to me was paradise.

Anyway.... while at this class - we would go out to their gardens every morning and cut the herbs we would need for the day. This is where I met " Chocolate Mint" . I used to keep it in my Chef Coat pocket so I could take it out and smell it when needed most. The Chef's weren't exactly like Gordon Ramsey ..but they were very intimidating. The mint gave me my zen back.

The mint and some very panicked phone calls to Mark [ who did graduate from the CIA in New Hyde Park]. I would sneak away , and use a pay phone, there were no cell phones back then [ gasp!], and say things to Mark like.... "They just gave me potatoes, eggs and Chicken... tell me what to do". He would respond to me with " Traci, I am at work ... just make a Francaise". to this I would say " a what?, If I could make that I wouldn't have called".

Now, off to find a chocolate mint plant.....

Gramercy Park Hotel

Oh! The Gramercy. I am not sure what I love more about this hotel:

  • Ian Schrager Design
  • Private Roof Top Club
  • Stunning Art Collection
  • Great Space for Parties
  • State of The Art Gym
  • Outstanding Hospitality
  • Modern Spa

.... Described as Bohemian reinvented for the 21st Century , entering into this hotel is a true multi-sensory experience. I toured the space with a fabulous client of mine just before the renovation was complete it was stunning then and even more so now.

On my "to do" list at The Gramercy: Enjoy a Dim Sum Brunch at Wakiya, Thai Massage at Aerospa, Drinks at The Rose Bar - and oh ya, find a reason to throw a party on The Roof Top.

The event spaces/menu's can all be accessed online and provide a wealth of opportunities for your next soirée.
